The Toyota company has long gained fame as a manufacturer of practical, comfortable and reliable cars. The company owes much of this to the Corolla model, which first appeared back in 1966 and is still being produced today.
In 2005, there were rumors that the manufacturer intends to release a new model, which will be built on the basis of the new generation of Toyota Corolla, but offered exclusively in a hatchback body, while the original Corolla will retain the appearance of a sedan.
As a result, in 2006, a new hatchback was officially presented on the world stage, which received the name Auris, which comes from the Latin word Aurum (gold).
The novelty was warmly received by the world community, which positively affected the sales of the model around the world.
In September 2012, Toyota presented the second generation of the hatchback, which received a more modern and dynamic appearance, a new interior and more efficient engines, including a new hybrid. The novelty especially pleased the Europeans, where the car became the second most popular model of the company. Russia was no exception, where the car is also in great demand.
3 years after the release of the second generation of Auris at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the company presented a restyled version of the model, which received a slightly modified appearance, new equipment, modernized sound insulation, control and suspension structure, as well as new motors.
Running a little ahead of myself, I would like to note that Toyota designers have managed to create a stylish, modern and perfectly balanced car that pleases with excellent handling, rich equipment and reasonable cost. The car turned out to be exactly what fans of the brand expected to see.
Exterior Toyota Auris 2016
Despite the fact that the restyled Auris has retained the concept of its predecessor, the car looks new. The main changes have affected the front of the car, which has become more solid and visually a little wider. There is a new optics of the head light on LEDs, a modified radiator grill, as well as a more original front bumper, into which the original air intake and small foglights are "embedded".
The profile of the car has practically not undergone any changes, only the wheel rims turned out to be new, which, depending on the configuration, can be represented by R16 or R17.
The hatchback stern has also undergone minor changes, where from now on "settled" fully LED side lights, as well as a more massive rear bumper.
Along with the changes in the exterior, the car received two new body colors - blue and dark blue metallic, which means that potential buyers have the opportunity to further personalize. The overall characteristics of the model remained the same:
- Length - 4.339 m;
- Width - 1.76 m;
- Height - 1,475 m;
- Wheelbase - 2.6 m, which is one of the best indicators in this segment.
In general, the updated Auris looks more dynamic and, let's not be afraid of the word, a sports car, which will surely appeal to young buyers.

The interior decoration of the salon has also been transformed. Here there were new, more expensive finishing materials, a slightly redrawn architecture of the front console, where the new microclimate control unit and the block of the multimedia and entertainment complex, represented by a large touch screen, are especially striking.
In front of the driver is a simple yet functional handlebar with a comfortable grip, as well as a new and extremely informative dashboard in motorcycle style.
Separately, it is worth highlighting the appearance of new air duct deflectors, made in an aviation style, as well as a small gearshift lever located on the central dashboard.
The front seats are comfortable with well-perceptible lateral support, but even in the top-end configuration they are not equipped with electrical adjustments. A person of any size can comfortably sit behind the wheel of a car, and the ergonomics are so well thought out that, even when you are in the car for the first time, you intuitively find all the necessary buttons and levers.
Between the front seats there is an armrest with a voluminous niche inside, and a 1.5-liter bottle easily fits into the side door pockets.
The second-row seats, as before, can easily accommodate three adult passengers, while there is enough space both in length and width, and in height.
The volume of the trunk of the gasoline and diesel "Auris" is 360 liters, but it can be increased by folding the second row seats. In the hybrid version, the boot capacity is only 127 liters, since the rest of the space is consumed by the batteries.
The manufacturer emphasizes that in comparison with its predecessor, the car has become much quieter and more comfortable, which is facilitated by the use of new noise-insulating materials, as well as the modernization of the suspension.

The powertrain lineup is represented by three gasoline engines, two diesels and one hybrid combining a gasoline and an electric motor. Gasoline engines are presented:
- An innovative 1.2-liter turbo engine that develops 116 hp. - 1.4-liter diesel engine complying with Euro 6 and generating 90 hp. The motor pulls well from the bottom and has good economy, however, you don't expect anything else from a Toyota diesel engine;
- 1.6-liter 116-horsepower turbodiesel developed jointly with the BMW carmaker. Acceleration from 0 to 100 for such a motor requires at least 10.7 seconds, and the maximum speed is fixed at around 195 km / h. Average fuel consumption ranges from 4-4.2 l / 100 km, which is one of the best among competitors.
The hybrid power plant is represented by a 28-horsepower electric motor paired with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with 136 horsepower. Such an engine allows the car to accelerate to a hundred in 10.9 seconds, and develop a maximum 180 km / h. Average fuel consumption is 5.5 l / 100 km.
The re-tuned suspension and improved steering deserve special attention. The car easily copes with both medium and large irregularities, while it keeps its trajectory perfectly and does not require constant steering.
Safety Toyota Auris 2016
Toyota cars have always provided a high level of safety, and the restyled Auris is no exception. So, the car acquired a whole set of active safety systems, named Safety Sense, which included:
- Frontal collision avoidance system with automatic deceleration function;
- A system that monitors the lane and warns the driver about its unauthorized change;
- System automatically correcting high beam;
- Traffic sign tracking system.
In addition, the car is equipped with front and side airbags, three-point belts with pretensioners, anti-lock and ESP systems, cruise control, automatic brake force distribution, traction control, emergency deceleration, ISOFIX child seat mounts and a rear view camera.
The updated Toyota Auris, like the previous generation, passed the EURO NCUP crash test with dignity, where it received an excellent mark, and this concerns the safety of not only passengers, but also pedestrians. The car is ideal for the role of family transport, especially when it comes to the Touring Sports modification, which received a station wagon body.

Toyota's management offered several modifications to the buyers to choose from. In the basic version, which in Russia will cost the client at least $ 16.4 thousand (about 1.059 million rubles), the car will receive:

The Toyota Auris is a stylish, dynamic, spacious and well-equipped vehicle that does its job well. The car provides a high level of comfort, pleases with high-quality, albeit not premium, finishing materials and a rich list of additional equipment, most of which are simply not available from competitors. It's a well-balanced everyday car worth every penny invested in it.
