In the fall of 2017, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the official debut of the new "hot" hatchback Renault Megane RS, built on the basis of the civilian Megane of the 4th generation, took place.

And just six months later, the French division of Renault Sport presents the ultimate track version of the hatchback - Renault Megane RS Trophy, created for the true fans of track days.

From the point of view of external and internal design, the novelty almost completely repeats the solutions of the "standard" RS-ki, while in technical terms the car received a number of significant improvements, including: a reconfigured suspension, the presence of a mechanical differential lock, as well as a slightly modernized power plant ...

Running a little ahead, it is worth noting that the manufacturer managed to create one of the most uncompromising and stylish "supercars for the poor", which will definitely find its buyer.

Exterior of the Renault Megane RS Trophy

As noted earlier, the exterior of the Megane RS Trophy is identical to the standard RS version, with the exception of the unique 19-inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone's proprietary Potenza racing tires.

Frontal part of the body flaunts a stylish embossed bonnet, spectacular headlights, and a laconic false radiator grille with a large Renault logo and R.S. emblem in the center.

There is also a complex front bumper, which has received several sections of air intakes, a kind of front splitter and unusual LED-running lights, stylized under the Renault Sport logo.

Dynamic and taut hatchback profile represented by heavily piled back A-pillars, a slightly sloping roof, muscular wheel arches, as well as expressive sidewalls and additional air gills located immediately behind the front wheel arches.

Feed "charged" Megan Trophy flaunts a neat luggage compartment lid, a small spoiler, expressive side lights with LED filling and a textured rear bumper, which can boast the presence of an impressive diffuser with a large trapezoidal exhaust nozzle, a pair of vertical air ducts and compact rear fog lights.

The external dimensions of the car have not changed:

Length, mm4359
Width, mm1814
Height, mm1447
Wheelbase, mm2669

There is no exact information on the ground clearance, but it is unlikely to differ much from the 150 mm ground clearance of the "base" modification.

In comparison with the standard Megan, the novelty has received an increased front and rear track (+ 60 and 40 mm, respectively).

Potential buyers are offered the opportunity to choose between several body colors that emphasize the sporty spirit and unbridled nature of the hot hatchback.

Interior decoration Trophy

The interior of the Megane RS Trophy pleases with a stylish, but at the same time laconic design of the front panel, high-quality finishing materials and impeccable assembly. Throw in well-tuned ergonomics and you have one of the very best cabins in the class.

Driver's cockpit demonstrates a modern, sporty-designed instrument panel, as well as a cool three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, which received a red “zero” position mark, the corporate logo “R.S.” and premium upholstery in a combination of perforated leather and Alcantara.

The center console houses an 8.7-inch tablet for the infotainment and information center, right under which French designers have placed a laconic air conditioning control unit and a small auxiliary switch unit located even lower.

It is also worth paying attention to the presence of metal pedals and decorative inserts "under carbon fiber"found on the front dashboard and door "cards".

Standard frontal riders quality sports seats are available with integrated headrests, pronounced lateral bolsters, plenty of adjustments and Alcantara upholstery. As an option, buyers can replace them with dedicated Recaro bucket seats.

Between the front seats there is a relatively low transmission tunnel, which houses: a comfortable armrest, a gearshift knob and a pair of auxiliary mechanical buttons, including a button for activating the parking brake.

Second row of seats represented by a comfortable sofa, designed to accommodate three riders, and one cannot fail to mention the fact that the car is one of the leaders in the class in width on the back sofa.

Despite the track orientation, the novelty is not devoid of a luggage compartment, and the trunk volume is 384 liters, which is only slightly less than the "standard" version with its 434 liters. As with the regular Renault Megane, the RS Trophy version's rear sofa can be folded down to increase the cargo area to 1247 liters.

Specifications Renault Megane RS Trophy 2019

The Renault Megan RS Trophy is set in motion by means of a similar "standard" RS-ke power plant, represented by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder TSe gasoline engine, equipped with a two-flow turbine, a direct injection system, a 16-valve timing belt and variable valve timing.

However, it was not without modifications - instead of the standard steel bearings, the turbocharger received special ceramic ones, which made it possible to reduce friction and increase responsiveness.

Thanks to this and a few other minor modifications, the power of the power plant was increased from 280 to 300 hp. and from peak 390 to 400 Nm of torque. And in the case of installing the optional preselective "robot" EDC, the rotational thrust increases to 420 Nm.

As a standard, the hot hatch is aggregated with a 6-speed "mechanics", which, together with a more powerful power plant, allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds. and guarantee a top speed of 261 km. For comparison, a regular Megane RS exchanges a hundred in 5.8 seconds. and develops a maximum speed of 255 km / h.

The exact fuel consumption has not been officially announced, however, it is unlikely to exceed the mark of 9.5-10.5 liters for every 100 km of the distance traveled.

The novelty is based on a slightly modernized CMF platform. The car's suspension has an independent architecture with MacPherson struts at the front and a semi-independent torsion beam at the rear axle.

It is also worth noting the presence of hydraulic bumperspre-installed on all shock absorbers, full-steering chassis and a Torsen mechanical limited-slip differential.

Compared to the "base" RS, the RS Trophy modification received more rigid settings for shock absorbers, springs and stabilizers, which had a positive effect on the car's handling on the race track. It is also important to note the appearance of a special damper in the muffler, which is activated exclusively at the moment of maximum load on the driving electronics.

Steering equipped with an electric booster with variable characteristics, and the braking system is represented by high-performance bimetallic disc mechanisms with pre-installed Brembo calipers.

Safety of the new Renault Megane RS Trophy

The list of pre-installed systems responsible for the safety of passengers includes:

  • Airbags "in a circle" + curtains of safety;
  • LED optics for front and rear lighting, including LED DRL lights;
  • Light sensor;
  • Rain sensor;

Equipment options and cost of the 2019 Renault Megan RS Trophy

The official launch of sales of the Renault Megane RS Trophy in the European Union is scheduled for the end of 2018, while the likelihood of the appearance of a new product on the Russian market is close to zero. However, this is not surprising, because we have not officially presented even the standard Renault Megane of the 4th generation.

Unfortunately, the price of the "Trophy" version is unknown, but it will definitely be higher than the cost of the "regular" Megane RS, the price tag for which in the UK starts at 27,495 thousand pounds (about 2.33 million rubles).

According to preliminary information, the list of the basic configuration of the "charged" Megan ERES Trophy will include:

  • LED optics for main and rear lighting, including LED daytime running lights;
  • Light sensor;
  • Rain sensor;

Conclusion

Renault Megane RS Trophy is a special version of the "charged" hatchback, created specifically for driving on race tracks. However, despite its narrow target orientation, the car is quite suitable for everyday urban use.
